Virginia Fifer

August 19, 1944 — October 26, 2013

Virginia P. Fifer, 69, entered peacefully into eternal life on October 26, 2013 with family by her side.
She was born August 19, 1944 and was the daughter of the late Melvin J. Palmer and Leota A. (Peters) Palmer.  Virginia was the devoted wife of Jay S. Fifer for 51 years.

Virginia was a life-long resident of Frederick County.  She excelled in school and graduated from Frederick High School with the Class of 1961 at the age of 16.  Virginia was the current Register of Wills, having first been elected in and serving continuously since 1990.  She was recognized for being very knowledgeable in estate matters.  Much of this knowledge was obtained during the preceding years while working at local law offices as a legal assistant and as office manager.  She was active in and a past-president of the Maryland Register of Wills Association.
Virginia had a strong faith.  She was raised Lutheran and attended grade school at Visitation Academy.  After marrying, she attended and was active in several Brethren churches over the years including Frederick, Glade Valley, Beaver Dam, and Grossnickle.  She was very involved in church by teaching Sunday school, leading youth group, and participating in other activities.  Virginia enjoyed reading, baking, cooking, sewing, traveling, and most of all she enjoyed spending time with family.

She loved and was devoted to her family and will be greatly missed by them and her beloved dog.  In addition to her husband, she is survived by daughters Kathryn Tucker (Michael) and Jayme Cline (Raymond), grandsons Phillip Tucker (Jaimie Walizer) and Matthew Cline, and great-grandchildren Phillip Tucker, Jr. and Emma Tucker all of Frederick.  She is also survived by her sister Alice Stull May (Charles) of Florida.  In addition to her family, she will be greatly missed by longtime friend Barbara McElroy and husband Michael, and by her ‘second family’ at the Register of Wills office.  In addition to her parents she was predeceased by granddaughter Hannah Tucker.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD.  Services will be private.
