Mrs. Virginia Pauline (Snyder) Barnes, 93, formerly of Boonsboro, MD passed away Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at Homewood Retirement Center in Williamsport. She was the beloved wife of the late Charles Edwin Barnes.
Born September 16, 1924 in Conococheague, MD she was the daughter of the late Francis Ridenour and Myrtle (Trumpower) Snyder.
Virginia graduated from Clear Spring High school in 1943. She was an active member of the Benevola United Methodist Church, Lappans Homemakers Club and the Washington Co. Farm Bureau. Prior to being married to Charles, March 23, 1951 she worked for McCrory's Department Store and in later years at the Auction House Restaurant in Boonsboro and as a cafeteria worker at Boonsboro Elementary School. She and her husband farmed together until 1974.
She is survived by her son Gale Barnes and wife Susan of Keedysville; four grandchildren Amy Wescott and husband Michael of Boonsboro, Matthew Barnes of Baltimore, Andrew Reichard and wife Whitney of Boonsboro and Anna Haupt and husband Michael of Keedysville and eleven great-grandchildren; one sister Ruby Miller of Williamsport, MD and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by sisters Mildred Holtzman, Dorothy Shupp, Naomi Bast, Betty Meyers and Thelma Marie Snyder and two brothers Richard Snyder and Guy Snyder
The family will receive friends at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, MD 21713 on Friday, March 30, 2018 from 2-4PM and 6-8PM and on Saturday, March 31 from 10-11AM at the Benevola United Methodist Church, 19925 Benevola Church Rd., Boonsboro where a service will begin at 11AM. Rev. Cindy Caldwell and Virginia's nephew Larry Sowers will officiate.
Interment will follow at Boonsboro Cemetery.
