Mrs. Violet Louise Summers, 90, of Frederick, Maryland, died Monday, September 7, 2015 at Homewood of Crumland Farms. She was the wife of the late Samuel P. Summers, Jr.
Born October 14, 1924 in Maryland, she was the daughter of the late George Samuel and Lela Dixon Smith.
Mrs. Summers was a member of Libertytown Methodist Church, the Eagles #1067, American Legion Post 120, REAC, past president of REAC, Amvets Post #2 and Past president of Eagles Auxiliary. In earlier years, she helped her husband on the farm and later retired from the Frederick County School Board after 40+ years of service.
She is survived by her sons Samuel P. Summers, III and fiancé Bonnie of Frederick, Kevin Summers and wife Kay of Mt. Airy, and Jimmy Summers and wife Cathy of Libertytown, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, a sister Janice Hahn and husband Richard of Keymar, and a special friend Byron Stockman. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her son Glenn Summers, sisters Ellen Hillery and Pauline Leatherman-Stride, brothers Sam Smith, David Smith, Edward Smith, Lester Smith, Herb Smith, Austin Smith, Jack Smith, Grayson Smith and Richard Smith.
The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, Thursday, September 10, from 2-4 and 7-9:00 pm, where services will be held Friday, September 11, at 11:00 am, with Rev. Jerry Cline officiating.
Interment Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
