Mrs. Violet L. May, 81, a lifelong resident of Frederick, died peacefully on Friday, July 3, 2015 at her home with her family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Paul E. May, Sr., who predeceased her on January 5, 2002.
Born on October 20, 1933 at her family home in Frederick, she was the daughter of the late Vernon and Myrtle (Davis) McDonald.
Violet loved her independence and dedication to health and fitness. She especially enjoyed dancing, reading, watching old movies and gardening. She was a member of Emmanuel Trinity Lutheran Church. Most importantly, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank Violet's longtime friend, Amy Fulp, for her continued dedication, support and compassion; and to her special friend, Tricia Paden. Also, special thanks to Dr. HudHud and his staff, and to the staff at Hospice of Frederick County for the wonderful care given to Violet.
She is survived by four sons, Paul May, Jr. and wife, Terry, of Frederick; Jimmy May and wife, Barbara, of Jefferson; Jerry May and wife, Shelly, of Frederick; and Johnny May of Baltimore; one daughter, Jeanne Dayhoff and husband, Tony, of Bloomsburg, PA; three grandchildren, Steven May and wife, Erica; Travis Dayhoff, and Toby Dayhoff; three great-grandchildren, Zyianna May, Stephen May, and Liam May; one brother, Charles McDonald and wife, Mable, of Florida; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 9th from the funeral home chapel with Pastor Andy Carr officiating.
Interment will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Serving as pall bearers will be her sons, son-in-law, and grandsons.
