Victor Howard Jung, age 91, passed away peacefully on Monday, 15 July at his home at Buckingham's Choice in Adamstown, Maryland.
He arrived into this world on his mother's birthday, 28 September 1932, in a hurricane at the International Hospital in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. His parents Victor H. Jungk, Sr and Lucile B. Plumb Jungk were on an overseas assignment there with Texaco Oil. Later he was joined by a sister Carol as they lived an adventure. At the conclusion of the Texaco assignment, his father took a management position at Central Ozama a sugar cane refinery in the DR. His mother taught the English-speaking children who were dependents at the compound. The family eventually moved in 1943 settling in Takoma Park, Maryland. Victor attended Blair High School where he was active as a leader in academics, student government, and sports. He continued his studies at the University of Maryland where he majored in Business. There he played varsity baseball, joined Kappa Alpha fraternity, was a cadet in the Air Force ROTC, and was tapped for Omicron Delta Kappa (National Leadership Honor Society). He was proud to have served as the President of the M Club representing those that had lettered in sports at UMd. After graduation he served for two years as an USAF officer at Hahn Air Base, Germany. He later made his career working for IBM in marketing and sales.
Victor married Lorene Virginia Ladd on 7 December 1957, his longtime girlfriend who also attended Blair HS and UMd. They raised a family in the Maryland suburbs of DC to include 5 children: Scott (Pamela), Tracy (Mark), Wayne (Ann), Bradley (Dona), and Paul (Holly) who blessed him with nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Sadly, Lorene passed away in September 1993. Victor met and married Dorothy Marie Sherman on 18 February 1995 creating for each a loving blended family. They recently celebrated 29 wonderful years together. Dottie's two sons Jason (Wendy) and Stephen (Adrienne) added for them three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Victor volunteered often to coach little league teams, lead community sports associations, and cheer on his children as they grew up. He also had a talent for golf and in his retirement years he enjoyed many rounds. He always loved interacting with people and kept his sense of humor to the end.
Vic's family would like to express their sincere and deep appreciation to the many friends, staff, and acquaintances at Buckingham's Choice who made him, as well as all of us, feel so welcomed and well cared for since he and Dottie made this their home in February 2022. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation in Vic's name to the Acts Samaritan Fund (easily found online) that would be available for financial assistance to those who may need help while at Buckingham's Choice.
A Celebration of Life is planned for 11am on 10 August led by Rev. Mark Gorman at Calvary United Methodist Church at 403 South Main Street in Mt Airy, Maryland.
Plans are being made for interment later at Arlington National Cemetery in the Columbarium. Details for interment to follow at a later date.
