Vernon Glen Brake, Jr. (Glen) suffered from cardiac arrest while doing what he loved to do - sitting having a beer after a long run with a good friend. The next day, he passed away, surrounded by family and friends.
Born on February 11, 1948 in Olney, MD he was the son of the late Vernon Glen Brake, Sr. and Ruby Shipley Brake.
Glen was a loved husband, an adored father and grandfather, an avid orienteerer, a frequent traveler, and a hard worker. The homes he built were a testiment to his intelligence and attention to detail. He had a subtle humor and gleeful silliness that will be missed.
He is survived by his wife Teri, two daughters Jenifer and husband Rob and Nikole and husband Derek, grandson Jace, expected granddaughter name TBD, brother Barry, and nephew Matthew.
Glen graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Bucknell University in 1970. Glen served as 1st Lieutenant in the US Army from August 1971 to July 1973 when he was honorably discharged.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the US Orienteering Fund, the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund or a local food bank of your choice. There will be a visitation on July 7th at 10am at Calvary United Methodist Church, 403 S. Main St., Mount Airy, followed by a Remembrance Service and Reception starting at 11am.
In his mind, Glen wasn't finished on this earth. He had many plans... His family envisions him currently rafting through the Grand Canyon in heaven.
Arrangements are by Stauffer Funeral Home, Mt. Airy and Stauffer Crematory, Inc, Frederick. Online condolences may be expressed at staufferfuneralhome.com
