Velma Eileen (Wade) Scott , 90, of Hagerstown, Maryland, passed from this life on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at her home.
Born on November 15, 1923, in Smithsburg, Maryland she was the daughter of the late Charles Hubert and Mary (Zahn) Wade. She was married to Woodrow Birely Scott for 28 years, until his death on June 11, 1970.
Velma worked at Fairchild Industries, Bromley Orchard, and retired form Doubleday Publication were she worked as a bookbinder.
She was an active member of the First Christian Church in Hagerstown. Velma loved spending time in her many gardens tending to both vegetables and flowers. She enjoyed playing bingo every Tuesday morning at the McDonalds on Sharpsburg Pike and on Wednesday at the McDonalds on the Dual Highway in Hagerstown. She also enjoyed going to the monthly Leitersburg Senior Citizens meetings. She was a member of the Over the Hill Gang and the Seniors in Ministry at First Christian Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Quay Louise Scott of Hagerstown.
In addition to her husband, Velma was preceded in death by her three sisters, Leora F. Wade, Clovis Charlotte Louise Wade, Doris Arlene Quay Wade; and by two brothers, James Elwood Cecil Wade and Johnny Isaac Kleplinger, Jr.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, February 17, 2014 at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, Maryland. The Rev. Steven Johns-Boehme will officiate. Final resting place ceremonies will follow at Boonsboro Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Sunday, February 16, 2014 at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home.
