Vaughn Elvin Long, 83, of Burtonsville, Maryland and formerly of Hagerstown, Maryland, passed from this life on Thursday, July 14, 2011 at the VA Medical Center in Washington, DC.

Born on August 2, 1927 in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Ernest Joseph and Nellie Ruth (Shoop) Long.

Vaughn was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army.

He was employed for 12 years with Fairchild Aircraft Hagerstown, and 25 years with S & S Mailing in Bladensburg, Maryland.

Vaughn was formerly a member of 1st Christian Church in Hagerstown.

He is survived by his wife, Dot B. (Divens) Long; his daughter, Sandra K. and her husband Charles Wallace, Sr. of Beltsville, Maryland; one grandson, Charles E. Wallace, Jr. of Columbia, Maryland; one granddaughter, Laurie K. Miller of Huntington Beach, California; and four great-grandchildren, Cathy, Jesse, Amber and Ally.  He is also survived by two step great-grandchildren, Shanel and James.

A funeral ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, Maryland.  Rev. R. Thomas Fralin, Jr. will officiate.  Final resting place ceremonies will follow at Beaver Creek Cemetery in Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends from 12 noon until the time of the funeral ceremony on Tuesday at the funeral home.
