Vanda S. Connor passed away peacefully on February 22, 2025, in Frederick, Maryland.
Vanda was born in Washington, DC, in 1934. In 1960, she worked on John F. Kennedy’s presidential campaign and attended the Inaugural ball. Later, Vanda worked as an assistant dress buyer at Woodward and Lothrop, a job which she thoroughly enjoyed. She also worked as a resident manager for 25 years.
Vanda showered friends and family with love and affection. She never forgot an important date and never failed to spark conversation at a gathering. She was a passionate advocate for animal welfare and adored cats. She had a keen sense of style but also took joy in the simpler things in life – like a good hot dog. She enjoyed reading, shopping, going out with friends for coffee, old time television, and cooking shows.
Vanda was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Briah K. Connor, Jr. She is survived by her children Ann and Briah; grandchildren Jess (Nick), Kevin, Kara (Sarah) and Mary (Paul); great-grandchildren, Mona, Teddy and Emily; her two brothers, many cousins, nephews, nieces and a multitude of beloved friends.
Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
Memorial service will be held at St. Joseph on Carrollton Manor in Frederick, MD on April 23, 2025 at 11 am with a light lunch to follow in the church hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Wounded Warriors Project or the ASPCA.
