Mrs. Valerie D. Harris, 53, of New Market, died Thursday, January 16, 2014 at her home following a lengthy illness. She was the loving wife of Michael C. Harris.
Born December 6, 1960 in Chicago, IL, she was the daughter of Avonda Dudley of Morehead City, N.C.
Prior to her illness, Valerie was a volunteer firefighter with Howard County Fire Department, Station 9 in Columbia. She enjoyed music and hanging out with friends and family. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren. Following her diagnosis, Valerie participated in various research trials through the National Institutes of Health.
In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by sons, Conrad Dudley, Marlon Harris and Micah Harris; daughter, Serena Harris; and three grandchildren, Anthony Watts, Josiah Dudley and Isaiah Harris.
The family will receive friends from 9 to 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at Stauffer Funeral Homes, P.A., 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick. A service celebrating Valerie's life will begin at 10 a.m. from the funeral home chapel.
Interment will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
