Tommy Junior Arrowood, Sr.

Tommy J. Arrowood , Sr. 81, of Mount Airy, passed from this life on Wednesday, July 17, 2024 at Dove Hospice House in Westminster, MD. He was the husband of Joyce Arrowood who died in 2012. 

Born on May 18, 1943, in Marion, NC, he was the son of the late Charlie and Bertha Evans Arrowood. 

Tommy attended Sherwood High School. A Vietnam veteran, he retired form the U.S. Army as a Master Sgt in 1982 after 22 years service. He worked as a subcontractor for Minnick construction and later as a delivery man for Fitzgerald Automotive group. Tommy was a very active member of the Mt Airy Baptist Church. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, playing cards as well as spending time with friends and family usually telling bad jokes.

He is survived by six children: Tommy Junior Arrowood, Jr.and wife Chris, Kim Bennett and husband John, Jamie Arrowood and wife Thuy Tran, Jason Arrowood and wife Jennifer, Jeff Cheeks and wife Suzie, Bob Cheeks and wife Kristal; 21 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren; three brothers: Jimmy Arrowood and wife Louise, Donald Arrowood and wife Sue and Roger Arrowood and wife Marilyn. Tommy will also be remembered by his long time friend and companion Ruthie Stonestreet. 

The family will receive friends from 9:00 am to 10:00 am on Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at Mt. Airy Baptist Church, 1402 N. Main Street in Mt. Airy, MD where a celebration of his life will take place at 10:00 AM. Pastor Keith Vincent will officiate. Interment will be at Pine Grove Cemetery, Mount Airy.
