Timothy Lee Jansen

April 5, 1952 — October 28, 2014

After a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s Disease, Timothy Lee “Tim” Jansen went to be with his heavenly Father on October 28, 2014. He was the beloved husband of Laurie Cleary Jansen whom he met on a business trip in Scotland where they fell in love and later married on Tim’s 50th birthday.

Born April  5, 1952 in St. Petersburg, Florida, Tim was the son of the late Wilford and Josephine Jansen.  He grew up in Syracuse, NY, and graduated from Siena College in Albany, NY, where he received a scholarship to play basketball.   His best friend, Chris Madden affectionately nicknamed Tim “The Horn” because of his deep booming voice and he was well known for arranging big parties called “Horn Specials”.

After graduating from college Tim worked as an insurance professional with Haylor, Freyer and Coon.  He later joined the Reidman Corporation and then BB&T Frederick Underwriters.    His tall stature and warm, friendly disposition earned him great respect and many loyal customers in his field.

Throughout his life Tim coached numerous youth basketball teams in NY and MD, however, golfing was his passion.  His 6’8” stature gave him a beautiful, slow and easy swing.  He also enjoyed skiing, bicycling and boating.  He was a member of the Calvary Golf Club in Manlius, NY.  He attended Harriet Chapel in Thurmont, MD where he served as treasurer and was a member of the vestry.   When Tim was unable to work because of the disease, he volunteered for the Thurmont Food Bank.   More than anything else, Tim will be greatly missed for his kind, generous and loving nature.

In addition to his wife, Tim is survived by his children, Tonya Porter and husband Gabe of Epping, NH and their daughter Grace, Christopher Jansen of Rochester, NY, and Amber Jansen of Chola Vista, CA and her children Jordan, Avery and Kensen, step daughters Tara Miller and husband Vern of Woodsboro, MD and their children Colton and Brenna and Erin Cleary of Walkersville, MD with whom he shared a very special and tender relationship.

We thank all the angels that have been a part of Tim’s life since he was diagnosed, especially all the staff at Copper Ridge, Austin Johnson, Butch Hildebrand, Terry Miller, Sam Gyimah and Perlyn & Nikki Staggers.

The family will receive friends at Stauffer Funeral Home, 40 Fulton Avenue in Walkersville, MD from 4-7 p.m. on October 31st.   The funeral will be held at Harriet Chapel in Thurmont, MD  at 11:00 on November 1st and  interment will be at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Cemetery in Utica, MD.   Pastor Sally Joyner Giffin will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Harriet Chapel, 12625 Catoctin Furnace Road, Thurmont, MD 21788. Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family at www.staufferfuneralhome.com.
