Timothy Bernard Ganley

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mr. Timothy Bernard Ganley of Middletown, MD, who departed this life on Monday, January 29, 2024, at home, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on July 9, 1947, in Frederick, Tim was the son of Paul B. and Marjorie M. Ganley.

Tim devoted his professional life to the local and state fire service, leaving an indelible mark on the community he served. For the majority of his career, he served as a driver for the Independent Hose Company before concluding his dedicated service with the City of Frederick. Tim then transitioned to the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, where he served as a Fire Training Specialist until his retirement.

A passionate advocate and volunteer, Tim actively contributed to several Frederick County volunteer fire companies, holding key positions such as president of the Independent Hose Company, treasurer of The Citizen’s Truck Company, and assistant treasurer of The Frederick County Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association. His exceptional service earned him a well-deserved place in The Maryland State Fireman’s Association Hall of Fame.

Tim's commitment continued within the fire service as he tirelessly worked with the Volunteer Company Assistance Fund Committee (VCAF), aiding volunteer fire companies in utilizing federal grant funds to acquire essential equipment.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Tim was an ardent supporter of local Boy Scout programs including Troop 476 in Middletown. He served in various roles at Camp Airy including camp director.

Tim found immense joy in spending time with his family, whether on vacations or gatherings at home. His friends were cherished as much as his family, and his warm smile left an enduring impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He is survived by his wife, Judith Aird Messer Ganley, and his children, Christine Messer Shupenis and Michael Messer Ganley. Tim's profound love and pride for his family, especially his grandchildren—Anna Shupenis, Matthew Shupenis, Ragan Ganley, Grace Ganley, and Catherine Ganley—were evident to everyone who knew him.

Additionally he leaves his brother, Joseph H. Ganley, and sisters Dale Ganley Clabaugh and Paula Ganley Doing. He was predeceased by his brother Christopher T. Ganley.

He will be missed by many nieces and nephews.

A private gathering to celebrate Tim's remarkable life will be held at a later date, allowing  family to come together in remembrance. Though he may no longer be with us, the impact of Tim Ganley's legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those he touched.
