Thurman Tyler

Thurman "Jake"Rudell Tyler 88, died peacefully on Sunday May  6, 2012  at his home in Mt. Airy  MD.He was the son of the late George W. and Olia M. Dorsey Tyler and the husband  of Minnie J.Tyler . He was formerly married to the late Florabelle Snowden Tyler.He attended  Frederick county schools and he was a member of  Warren United  Methodist Church, Parrsville, MD.  He is survived by 4 children , Shirley  (Marie) Tyler Dorsey, Patricia Diggs, Thurman A, Tracy M. (Toni) Tyler, 4 foster children Paul Smith, John Dorsey, Tyrone Snowden and Brenda Osuegbu, 5 stepchildren M. Renee Maryland, Kimberly , Dana, Franklin, and Michelle Turner, 25 grandchildren 19 great grandchildren, and 6 great great grandchildren. He is also survived by 2 sisters, Lucille Dorsey, Mt. Airy MD, and Joan Wallace of  Gaithersburg, MD, 1 brother, Marshall Tyler (Patsy) , 2 foster brothers, Melvin Spriggs (Joanie) of Baltimore MD, and Clifton Bowins of Frederick, MD and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Elsie Myers and Bessie Zeigler, and 3  brothers, ,'Leon, George Jr, and Roger Tyler, son-in- law, Eddie Diggs, granddaughter, Kimberly Diggs. Thurman was a Sergeant  in  WW II. He was a member of The Versatiles gospel group for49 years. He  was the owner of Tylers trucking . Inc. for over 50 years. He retired at age 82 from trucking.  The  family will receive friends at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 Ridgevile Blvd, Mt Airy, MD, Friday May 11, 2012, 6pm-9pm. Viewing  and services will be held Saturday, May 12' 2012 at Damascus United Methodist Church, 9700 New Church Street, Damascus MD  from 9 am to 11am. Service at 11:00 am.The Rev. Ernest Thomas, officiating. Interment, Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
