Thurman Lee Frey Sr., age 82, of 9413 Mapleville Road, Hagerstown, MD, died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2007, at Washington County Hospital.
Born July 8, 1925 in Smithsburg, MD, Thurman was a son of the late Harry L. Frey Sr. and Naomi C. Smith Frey.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Louise Martz Frey, on Feb. 25, 2005.
Thurman had been employed as a cabinetmaker for Coffman Lumber Co. in Hagerstown for 45 years, retiring in 1997.
He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving with the U.S. Army.
Thurman was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Beaver Creek.
Along with his wife, he had been a leader of the Beaver Creek Community 4-H Club for 40 years and was a member of the Maryland Chapter of 4-H All Stars.
Thurman is survived by three sons, Thurman L. Frey Jr. and wife Carol of Baltimore, Danny R. Frey of Beaver Creek, and Gary A. Frey and wife Brenda of Harpers Ferry, WV; one grandson, Aaron J. Frey of Harpers Ferry; one sister, Margaret A. Ridenour of Smithsburg; five brothers, Harry L. Frey Jr. and A. Mark Frey, both of Ringgold, MD, Donald L. Frey of Florida, C. Nevin Frey of Hagerstown and Gerald E. Frey of Smithsburg, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Catherine Durham, Lucille Doyle and M. Elizabeth Ginn, and two brothers, James S. Frey and Robert E. "Gene" Frey.
Funeral services will be held 1:30 P.M. Friday at Bast Funeral Home in Boonsboro. The Rev. Dwight Morgan will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Mennonite Cemetery at San Mar.
The family will receive friends this evening from 6 to 8 P.M. at the funeral home.
