Thomas "Tom" Long

Thomas E. "Tom" Long, 73, of Young Avenue in Boonsboro, Maryland, passed away on Monday, January 31, 2011 at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland.

Born on March 23, 1937, he was the son of the late Elmer C. and Lillian Elizabeth (Seipler) Long, Sr.

Tom retired from the Maryland Correctional Training Center in Hagerstown after 33 years of employment after which he was employed with the Town of Boonsboro.

Mr. Long was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Boonsboro.  He was also a life member of the First Hose Company of Boonsboro, a member of the Boonsboro Ambulance and Rescue Service, Inc., the Sons of the Clopper-Michael American Legion Post #10, an associate member of the Fraternal Order of Police, a member of the Maryland Classified Employees Association, Inc., and the Improved Order of Redman Tribe #84 in Williamsport.  He also was a volunteer with the Washington County Fire Police.

He is survived by his wife, Leona M. (Myers) Long; his two daughters, Sharon M. and her husband Ronnie Reeves of Boonsboro and Debra L. and her husband Daryl Long of Hagerstown, Maryland;  his son, Thomas K. Long and his wife Deena of Boonsboro; his six grandchildren, Andrew, Emily, Courtney, Katie, Megan and Evan; and his two great-grandchildren, Tristin and Donnivan. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Long was preceded in death by one sister, Pauline V. Losh; six brothers, Elmer C. Long Jr., Francis E. Long, Russell L. Long, James A. Long, Robert L. Long, and Richard L. Long; and his grandson, Chuck Clevenger.

A funeral ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, February 4, 2011 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike in Boonsboro.  Rev. Joseph I. Donovan, III will officiate.  Burial will follow at the Boonsboro Cemetery.

Friends are invited to visit beginning at 9 a.m. on Thursday, February 3, 2011 at the funeral home where the family will be present to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
