Thomas Brown Watson, 79, of Rosemont, MD, passed away on May 16, 2024 in his home, surrounded by his loving family. Born on June 13, 1944 in Brunswick, MD, he was the son of the late B. Harwood "Doc" and Mary Jane Watson. Tom grew up in Rosemont and graduated from Charlotte Hall Military Academy in 1962.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserve, 698th Replacement Parts Supply Company, Frederick, MD, in April, 1965 and was honorably discharged as Staff Sergeant in April of 1971. Tom was sworn in as U.S. Park Police Officer in the spring of 1966 through November of 1968. Additionally, he was employed with the U.S. Park Services in 1963. In November of 1968, he joined the Fairfax County Fire Department as a career firefighter and retired after 34 years as Battalion Chief in July 2002. Including volunteer work, his firefighting service spanned 52 years.
Tom was a member of many local organizations, including: Fairfax County Retired Firefighters Association, Life Member and Past Fire Chief of Leesburg Fire Department, Life Member of Brunswick Fire Department, FOE 1136, Brunswick Lions Club, and Brunswick Masonic Lodge #191 AF & AM.
Tom devoted 21 years of service to the Village of Rosemont, 8 years as commissioner and 13 years as Burgess.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Charlotte Watson; Two Children: Dr. Kelly Watson Huffer (David) and Wade H. Watson (Dawn); Four Grandchildren: Luke A. Brown (Alana), Ethan H. Brown (Shyann), Matthew B. Watson (Brittany), Morgan H. Watson (Taylor); two great-grandchildren Ainsley Brown, Waylon Watson and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Tom had a zest for life and had many outside hobbies and interests, including participating in turkey shoot matches and relic hunting (metal detecting), particularly with his DIV family. He loved spending time at his river place in West Virginia, watching the sun set from the dock. Tom and Charlotte enjoyed traveling and took numerous cruise trips with lifetime friends.
The family will receive friends on Monday, May 20, 2024 from 6 to 8 pm at Stauffer Funeral Home 1100 N. Maple Avenue, Brunswick. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 21 at 1:00 pm, Rev. Tim May officiating. The family will also receive friends for an hour prior to the funeral service. Interment will be at St. Mark's Cemetery, Petersville.
