Thomas James “Tom” Shriver, 98, of Walkersville, MD passed from this life on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at Frederick Health Hospital in Frederick, MD. Prior to moving to Walkersville, Tom resided in Moundsville, WV for over 50 years.

 

He was born on March 1, 1925, in Littleton, WV, and was the son of Franklin Shriver and Elizabeth (Owen) Shriver.

 

Tom was a graduate of Wellsburg High School in Wellsburg, WV, and West Virginia University, where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Forestry in 1951. 

 

Shortly following graduation from high school, Tom was drafted into the United States Army. He spent 18 months in the European theater of operations during World War II where he participated in the Invasion of Normandy, and served as a member of the occupying forces in post-war Germany.

 

Tom was a retired employee of American Electric Power, where he worked at the Kramer Power Plant, first a chemist, and later as a shift engineer.

 

Tom was a member of Simpson United Methodist Church in Moundsville, WV, Marshall Union #8 Masonic Lodge and Scottish Rite of Freemasonry Osiris Shrine Temple.

  

In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years Evelyn Ann Horne Shriver, sister Helen Moyer Snyder, and brother William Moyer.

He is survived by daughter Beth (Jim) Williams, son Brent James (Carmen) Shriver, grandson Thomas E. Shriver, grandson Matthew (Kate) Williams, granddaughter Stacey (Tom) Cincotta, and great-grandchildren Tyler Cincotta, Lucy Williams and Benjamin Williams.

 

There will be no visitation or graveside services.

 

Memorial contributions may be made to Shriner’s Hospital of Erie, PA, Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation, or charity of the donor’s choosing.
