Thomas Wiley Mackintosh
December 29th, 1952 - September 5th, 2024
Tom was born the third of six children to the late Earl and Eleanor Mackintosh at Doctors Hospital in Washington DC. Tom was raised in Bethesda, Maryland, and attended the Bullis school where he excelled in soccer and football, later becoming captain of the football team and MVP his senior year. Tom’s love for sports continued as he played soccer while attending High Point College in North Carolina where he was a member of Delta Sigma Phi fraternity and made many lifelong friends. Tom's tenure at High Point College was shortened when he was asked by his father to return home to Loch Moy Farm in Adamstown, Maryland to manage the large family cattle farm. Tom’s devotion to the farm was not mistaken and lasted until his final days. Tom had a can-do, fix-it-yourself, determined mindset and was truly a jack of all trades. He proudly served as trustee and Vice President on the board for Stronghold Inc., at Sugarloaf Mountain for many years.
Tom met the love of his life, Dale, at her Rollins College reunion held at The Kennedy Center. They married on September 10th, 1977, in Long Island, New York. Together they started Highland Farm in Adamstown, Maryland where they proudly restored and expanded their log home and raised four loving children, Mariel, Wiley, Blair, and Travis. Tom enjoyed helping coach their team sports at The Barnesville School and the many family vacations they were fortunate to share.
Tom was honored to be named after his grandfather Thomas Wiley Ferguson of Ferguson, North Carolina. He loved his many Uncles, Aunts, and Cousins from Ferguson, North Carolina, and Castine, Maine.
Tom was a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, godfather, brother, uncle, friend, farmer, and businessman. He is missed greatly and will be loved forever. Tom is survived by his loving wife, Dale, daughter Mariel and John Eldridge of Boca Raton, Florida, son Thomas ‘Wiley’ Jr and Crystal Mackintosh of Adamstown, Maryland, and son Travis Mackintosh and Amelia Weinberg of Frederick, Maryland. Tom was predeceased by his daughter Blair on November 28, 2023. Tom cherished his time as G Dad to Zvi Mackintosh (Blair), Dalia and Elora Eldridge (Mariel), and Maddox and Roxy Mackintosh (Wiley). Also left to carry Tom's memory are his five siblings from Adamstown, Maryland - Rocky, Carolyn, Andy, Stephen ‘Buzz’, Jim, and their spouses and families as well as Dale’s sister Laurel and Bruce Murchison of Charleston, South Carolina and family.
Tom has been a true warrior and inspiration to all since his cancer diagnosis in 2018. May Tom rest in peace, we will feel his absence immensely.
