Thomas "Tom" M. Heard, 73, of Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, and formerly of Hagerstown and Baltimore, Maryland, passed away on Thursday, July 19, 2012 at the Waynesboro Hospital in Waynesboro.
Born on December 10, 1938 in Hagerstown, Maryland, he was the son of the late Edwin L. and Mildred E. (Thomas) Heard.
Tom was a 1956 graduate of Hagerstown High School in Hagerstown. Upon graduation from high school, Tom attended Towson University where he received a bachelors degree in education. Upon completion of his bachelors degree, Tom was accepted to Johns Hopkins University where he received his masters degree in education.
Tom was employed by the Baltimore City School System as a school teacher. After his retirement, he moved back to the Hagerstown area where he devoted the rest of his life to taking care of his parents until their passing. In 2004, Tom bought a home in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania and resided there until his passing.
He is survived by family members, Gerald Saum and his wife, Lisa, of Hagerstown, Judi S. P. McCarter of San Diego, California, Peggie Roscoe of Hagerstown, David Wachter of Harrisonburg, Virginia, and Dennis Wachter of Rhode Island. Tom is also survived by lifetime friends, Bernard and Linda Nolte of Baltimore and his beloved dog, Ziggy.
A graveside ceremony will be held at the convenience of the family at Boonsboro Cemetery, where Tom will be laid to rest next to his parents.
