Thomas Jay “Tommy” Grossnickle, 60, of Taylors Island, MD, died Thursday, April 16, 2015 as a result of a trucking accident in Easton, MD.
Born February 6, 1955 in Frederick, he was the son of the late Dolores Grace (Harshman) and Robert Thomas Grossnickle. He leaves the love of his life, Anna Marie Grossnickle, his wife of 17 years and his beloved canine friend, Shaggy.
Tommy was a 1973 graduate of Middletown High School. He was a life member of Grossnickle Church of the Brethren. He was Captain of Taylors Island Volunteer Fire Company, Firefighter 1 and a member of the Grace Foundation.
He was previously employed by Mack Truck and owned and operated Grossnickle Trucking for 25 years. For the past 8 years Tommy has been a professional delivery driver for Chaney Enterprise in Cambridge, MD.
He farmed, loved fishing, crabbing, hunting and was an avid Ravens fan. He also thoroughly enjoyed boating with his children and grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and canine friend, Tommy is survived by his mother-in-law, Barbara Stewart of Brunswick, MD; his first wife, Rita Kay Leeland of Middletown, MD; daughter, Cheryl Kay Grossnickle and Seth Delauter, son, Jonathan Jay Grossnickle and wife, Amy, all of Myersville, MD; stepchildren, Stephanie Karus of Williamsport, MD, Tony Pruitt and wife, Blanca, of Gaithersburg, MD, Trish Nicholson and husband, Les, of Frederick and Danny Pruitt and wife, Kim, of Myersville; grandchildren, Nature and Justice, Mackenzie, Alexa, and Weston, Meadow and Maxwell, Sophia and little Tony, Terrance, Garrett and Warren, and Alex, Ryan and Andrew; sisters, Karen Toms and husband, Bill, of Frederick, Judy Lohman and husband, Charlie, of Myersville, Kim Grossnickle of Myersville, and Sherene Grossnickle and Larry Blank of Thurmont, MD; best friend Larry Kitchen and wife, Bonnie, of Williamsport, MD.
The family will receive friends 6 -8 p.m. Monday, April 20, 2015 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 21, at Grossnickle Church of the Brethren. Revs. Tim and Donna Ritchey Martin will officiate. Burial will follow in the adjoining church cemetery.
