Thomas Collins, Jr, a veteran of Vietnam and longtime resident of Mt. Airy, passed away on May 26, 2023 surrounded by family. JR, as he was known, was born September 9, 1947 to Garlen and Mary Jane and attended Albert Einstein High School before being drafted in the U.S. Army. He was a proud patriot of the United States of America. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion and was an active donor to the Wounded Warrier Project.
JR was known for his love of fishing. He also appreciated all sports, but had a particular affinity for baseball (Orioles & Nats) and football (Redskins). He enjoyed playing poker, collecting coins and being outside. Most of all, he lived for his grandchildren.
JR was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Gloria, sons, John and Danny, and Grandson, Christopher. He is lovingly remembered by his siblings, Gary and Mary and their spouses Kathy and Paul. He will be forever cherished by his daughters Terri Jean and Brandi and their spouses Brad and Sean. He will rest forever in the hearts of his grandchildren, Michael, Tiffany, Justin, Brittany, Robbie, Nick, Dylan, Danielle, Melissa, Kaylee, Baby Nick and his favorite daughter in spirit, Marli. He is also remembered by his nephew, Gary, and niece, Ally and great nephew, Connor.
The family will receive friends on Friday, June 2, 2023 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 East Ridgeville Blvd., Mount Airy, MD 21771. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, June 3, 2023 at 12:00 noon.
Interment with Military Honors will be held at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends and family at the home of Sean and Brandi Falk following the interment.
