Thomas Brossart

Mr. Thomas M. Brossart, Lieutenant Colonel, US Army Retired, 59, of Mt. Airy,  passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 19, 2015, at his residence. He was the husband of Kathleen Susan Newton Brossart, his wife of 37 years.

Born on December 17, 1955 in Cincinnati, OH he was the son of the late Frank and Elizabeth Kappelhoff Brossart.  He served 20 years in the United States Army as a cavalry officer with assignments in 2d Squadron 2d Armored Cavalry Regiment, Bamberg, Germany; 1/10th Cavalry, Fort Carson, Colorado; and 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, Fort Bliss, Texas. He also served as the American exchange officer with the British Army, representing his country in the finest tradition. For the past ten years Tom was Director for Global Logistics and Trade Compliance for W.R. Grace, and prior to that he worked for General Electric Global Exchange Services. Tom was an accomplished pilot who was passionate about flying. He also enjoyed golf, world-wide travels, and family trips to the beach.

He was an active member of Saint Michael's Catholic Church in Mount Airy. He was a Third Degree Knight, served as a Trustee for 3 years, was the Chairman of the Mother's Day Brunch and Chairman of the Golf Tournament Committee. He worked several other activities such as the Tootsie Roll Campaign, Fish Dinners, Pasta Feasts, Marigold Program. Also a member of the 4th Degree Assembly he served as the Comptroller for over 10 years and a member of the Color Corps, serving as the Color Corps Commander for several years. He was the Coordinator for practically all administrative functions associated with the Fourth Degree Exemplification.
Tom grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio with two sisters, Connie and Mary. Tom married Kathy, the love of his life. In addition to being a loving husband to Kathy, he was a devoted father to Alexander and Jack (Jonathan), faith and family were the cornerstones of Tom's life.

The Family will receive friends from 5-8 PM on Friday, January 23, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd., Mt. Airy. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 24, at St. Michael's Catholic Church at Poplar Springs, 2511 St. Michael's Rd., Mt. Airy with Rev. Michael J. Ruane as Celebrant. Interment will take place in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
