Theresa Virginia Whipp

Mrs. Theresa Virginia Whipp, 77, of Thurmont, died Monday, June 9, 2008 at the Georgetown University Hospital.

She was the wife of the late Robert Franklin Whipp who died in 1993.

Born in Frederick, MD on February 20, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Pauline Virginia (Hobbs) and Thomas Fred Firor.

A graduate of the Academy of the Visitation Catholic School in Frederick, she worked her high school summers as a telephone operator in Thurmont assisting the Hello Girls. Theresa went on to graduate from the McLaughlin School for Medical Secretaries, and worked for Dr. Miller as a medical secretary in Washington, DC in the 1950's.

She spent her early years in Thurmont, then moved to Kensington, MD in 1955 with her husband, Robert, to raise their family.

During the 1980's she worked for MARCOVA as a transcriber, in addition to volunteering at her children's schools, serving on the PTA, and being an active member and volunteer of Holy Cross Parish in Kensington. They returned to Thurmont in 1990 and Theresa again became an active member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church.

In recent years, she was a volunteer at the Thurmont Senior Center.

Theresa will be remembered for her generosity and care giving through out the years to her family and friends.

Survivors include her children; Thomas Robert Whipp of Thurmont, David Franklin Whipp and wife Jennifer of Potomac, MD, Kathleen Marie Maris and husband Steve of Germantown, MD and Mary Elizabeth Craca and husband Thomas of Damascus, MD; four grandchildren, Mackenzie and Zachary Whipp and Georgia and Olivia Craca; a sister, Frances Firor Greco of Chapel Hill, NC; a brother, John Edward Firor and wife Emily of Thurmont; her nephews, Tony and Michael Greco and her niece Laura Greco; she is also survived by numerous cousins. Theresa will also be missed by her friends at Sunrise Assisted Living of Frederick where she spent the last year and a half.

Theresa was preceded in death by a step grandson, Marshall McDonald.

Visitation: The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 12, 2008 from 6 until 9 PM at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main Street, Thurmont, MD.

Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, June 13, 2008 at 10:30 AM at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church, 103 North Church Street, Thurmont , MD with Father John Lombardi officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
