Theodore Russell

Mr. Theodore Russell, 68, of Frederick went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at his residence . He was husband of Debra C. Walker Russell, his wife of 28 years.

Born on July 9, 1940, in the Bronx, New York he was the son of Benjamin R. Russell of Tampa, FL and the late Naomi Chapman Russell.

Ted spent the majority of his life working as an electrical engineer after graduating from the Newark College of Engineering in 1962. He then earned a Masters degree in education from Montclair State College.

After spending 3 years in navigation with the U.S. Air Force, Ted worked on space shuttle technologies for the remainder of his career.

He retired from NASA under Lockheed Martin in Houston, TX in 1997.

Ted then went to work with the Houston Independent School District managing a program for at risk children.

Although much of his time was devoted to his family, ministry and community outreach, he found time to go from barbershop to barbershop talking to men about family life.

In 2004, after 12 years in Houston, he and his wife returned to Maryland to be closer to their children and grandchildren and to go full time into ministry. They have ministered to countless people throughout the United States, Europe and the Middle East. In addition he had passions for photography and percussion instruments.

Surviving in addition to his wife and father are 3 children: Dennis Russell of Norfolk, VA, Taheba Byrd of Washington, DC and Kyheim Byrd and wife Demica of Frederick; 9 grandchildren: Brianna Byrd, Takina Smith, Myranda Smith, Kyheim Byrd, Shayla Russell, Anthony Byrd, Jordan Byrd, Jaden Byrd and Bethanni Russell; 2 sisters: Verona Wyche of Neptune, NJ and Bernadette Yee of Tampa and a brother, Vaughn Russell of Plainfield, NJ.

Mr. Russell was preceded in death by a son Daniel Russell.

Visitation: The family will receive friends from 7-9 PM on Monday, September 15, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick.

Services: Services will be held at the funeral home at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, September 16, with Bishop Delbert Herrin officiating.

Interment will take place in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.
