Mr.Theodore Charles Grunewald "Teddy" passed away on Friday, February
18, 2011, after an extended illness at age 86. Born April 23,1924 in New Orleans
La,and was the son of the late Avis and Hudson Grunewald. He was a former
resident of Washington DC and Frederick MD and was residing with his daughter
Avis Atchison in Mt Airy, MD. Ted was a Naval Veteran of World War II serving in
the Pacific Theater where he served as RM-1( radioman first class)
stationed aboard the USS Niobrara. He was elected by Admiral " Bull
" Halsey to witness the signing of the peace treaty in Tokyo Bay aboard the
USS Missouri on September 2,1945. Ted worked with the Montgomery County
Department of Transportation until his retirement in 1991. He was preceded in
death by his wife of 64 years, Georgia Groover Grunewald in 2008, his youngest
daughter Cathy Nason in 2004, and his grandson Lane Boerstler in 1987. Ted is
survived by his 5 daughters Pat Merson of Frederick MD, Betsy Norris of
Frederick MD, Angela Boerstler of Monrovia MD, Avis Atchison of Mt Airy MD,and
Nancy Fields of Boonsboro MD, including 10 grandchildren and 18 great
grandchildren. A Private interment will be held at Mt Olivet Cemetery in
Frederick MD. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice
of Frederick County, PO Box 1799, Frederick MD 21702.
