Mrs. Thelma V. Spence, 80, of Brunswick, died Saturday March 3, 2007, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of the late Lloyd B. Spence.
Born on January 4, 1927 in Welch, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Julius and Lottie Lucas Sigler.
Mrs. Spence was a devoted member of the Brunswick Volunteer Ambulance Company Ladies Auxiliary where she served faithfully for many years. She was also a member of the Brunswick Pythian Sisters. Mrs. Spence loved baking cakes, including many wedding cakes, and was well known for her red velvet cakes.
Surviving are two children, Lloyd D. Bubby Spence and wife Ella and Charlene Spence, all of Brunswick; grandson, Kyle Axline of Brunswick; step-grandchildren, Gary Barkman and wife Mary of Lynchburg, Va., Kim Barkman of Thurmont and Dana Ferree of Frederick; nine step-great-grandchildren; three step-great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Anna Thornton, Beatrice Hollar and Joyce Stapleton, all of Brunswick; and brothers, Ronnie Sigler of Brunswick and Randy Sigler of Frederick.
Mrs. Spence was preceded in death by a daughter, Cathy Spence; a sister, Hazel Stroupe; and brothers, Buddy, Howard, James {Bones}, Willard, Leo, Isaac, and Earl Sigler.
Visitation: Friends may call on Monday, March 5, from 3 to 9 p.m. at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1100 Maple Ave., Brunswick, where the family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services:
Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, March, 6 at 11 a.m. The Pastor Noni Sigler will officiate.
Interment will be in Lovettsville Union Cemetery, Lovettsville, Va.
In lieu of flowers, the family ask that contributions in Mrs. Spence's name be made to the Brunswick Volunteer Ambulance Company, 200 West Potomac Street, Brunswick, MD 21716.
