Thelma Catharine Rand Zeigler Kephart, age 86, a resident of Ravenwood Lutheran Village in Hagerstown, died Sunday, Dec. 7, 2008, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Jan. 26, 1922 in Zulllinger, PA, she was a daughter of the late Frank Bernard and Vada Angeline Gardner Kesselring, and foster daughter of the late John Wesley and Myrtle Stover.
She was preceded in death by three husbands, Richard H. Rand Sr., Walter A. Zeigler and Cecil L. Kephart.
Thelma was a retired employee of Western Maryland Hospital Center in Hagerstown.
She was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Women's Army Corps.
Thelma was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Boonsboro.
She had volunteered with the Western Maryland Hospital Auxiliary and at Hickory Elementary School and was a past president and vice president of Clopper-Michael Post 10 American Legion Auxiliary in Boonsboro.
Thelma is survived by two daughters, Hope L. Rohrer and husband Gary of Hagerstown, and Peggy O. Shifler and husband Ronald of Williamsport; four sons, Richard H. Rand Jr. of Elkridge, MD, John H. Rand and wife Sue of Fairplay, James W. Rand and wife Lana of Rohrersville, and William J. Rand and wife Jackie of Hagerstown; one brother, Frank B. Kesselring of Greencastle, PA; 17 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two step grandchildren; nine step great-grandchildren and one step great-great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, George Kesselring, Dorsey Kesselring and Jason Kesselring, and a daughter-in-law, Juliette Rand.
Funeral services will be held 11 A.M. Thursday at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home in Boonsboro. The Rev. Joseph I. Donovan III will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park in Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6 to 8 P.M.
