Thelma M. (Hanes) Thompson, 98, of Hagerstown, Maryland, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday morning, August 8, 2012 at the Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown.
Born on October 20, 1913, in Brunswick, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Maurice A. and Susie E. (Sullivan) Hanes. She was preceded in death by her two husbands, William Wheeler and Richard Thompson.
Thelma was a lifetime member of the Brownsville Church of the Brethren in Brownsville, Maryland.
She worked as a head teller for the National Savings and Trust Bank in Washington D.C., retiring after twenty years of service.
She was a former member of the Pleasant Valley Senior Citizens.
Thelma is survived her brother, Glenn Hanes, Sr. of Yarrowsburg, Maryland; and her special care-giver, Deborah and her husband, Dave Witmer of Boonsboro, Maryland. Thelma is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husbands, Thelma was preceded in death by four sisters, Louise Chapman, B. Elizabeth Thompson, Madeline Brooks and Luella Hanes; and four brothers, Thomas Hanes, Maurice Hanes, Jr., Gerald Hanes and Lindy Hanes.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 10, 2012 at the Brownsville Church of the Brethren, 1911 Rohrersville Road, Brownsville, Maryland. The Rev. Alan M. Smith will officiate. Final resting-place ceremonies will follow at the adjoining church cemetery.
Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Brownsville Church of the Brethren, 1911 Rohrersville Road, Brownsville, Maryland 21715 or to the Brownsville Church of the Brethren Youth.
