Terry C. Westbrook

Terry C. Westbrook, 71, of New Market, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 27, 2024. Born on June 16, 1953, in Hartford, Connecticut, she was the daughter of the late George Dunham Westbrook and Frances (Farnsworth) Westbrook. 

After graduating from Northfield Schools, Terry attended Curry College in Milton, Massachusetts, receiving a bachelor’s degree in philosophy. She worked for several years at Connecticut General Life Insurance Company before starting her own businesses, pursuing her many passions. In her younger years she opened and managed a health club on the shoreline of Connecticut, where she could also be found sailing in the summer. An avid collector of antiques, she moved on to running an antique and collectible shop, with a thriving sideline of refinishing furniture. Later still she studied to become a CNA, which helped launch her career of caring for the elderly. 

Terry was a dedicated mother to her daughter Jill, proud grandmother to Jill’s son Josh, and loyal aunt to her two nieces, Natasha and Rebecca. She spent many years taking care of her own mother, Frances “Frannie” (née Farnsworth, later Westbrook) Armstrong, always ensuring that Frannie enjoyed the remaining years of her life. Terry loved animals and always had a bevy of them surrounding her. She had a particular love of cats and, in addition to caring for her beloved pets, bred Bengal cats and proudly participated in cat shows throughout New England for a period of time. 

Terry had an amazing fortitude, with a strong will and drive for independence that superseded her many health issues. She made friends with people and animals alike wherever she went, and her spirit and spunk left a lasting impression. She will be missed by her daughter Jill (Barents) Babby, grandson Josh Babby, brother George Westbrook, sister-in-law Jan Zimmermann, nieces Natasha (Westbrook) Zontini and Rebecca Westbrook, great-nephew Nico Zontini, extended family, and friends. 

A graveside memorial service will take place at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Hartford, CT at the George D. Westbrook family plot on November 2, 2024 at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation to an animal shelter of your choice may be made in Terry’s name.
