Teddy R. Whitaker, 80, formerly of Jefferson, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, November 3, 2014, at Golden Living Center in Frederick, Maryland.
Born on July 14, 1934, in Rainelle, West Virginia, he was the son of the late John and Adeline (Prater) Whitaker.
He was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Daleville, Virginia, where he served as a deacon for many years.
Teddy worked as a millwright for Bethlehem Steel in Baltimore, Maryland, retiring after thirty-one years of dedicated service. Upon retirement, Teddy worked as a school bus driver in West Virginia and Virginia.
In his spare time, Teddy enjoyed being with his family and friends, gardening, hunting, and watching the Baltimore Orioles.
Teddy is survived by his loving wife, Margaret (Adkins) Whitaker of Westminster, Maryland, whom he married on October 1, 1955; his daughter, Susan Farren and her husband, Bob Mapes of Westminster, Maryland; his son, Teddy Whitaker of Essex, Maryland; three granddaughters, Carrie and Jennifer Farren and Stacie Whitaker; and four great-grandchildren, Trey Parker, Kai and Addley Hahn, and Gabrielle Woehrle. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by twelve siblings, of which Teddy was the last remaining immediate family member.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 8, 2014 at Stauffer Funeral Homes, P.A., 1100 North Maple Avenue, Brunswick, Maryland 21716. Rev. Tim May will officiate. Final resting-place ceremonies will follow at Burkittsville Union Cemetery in Burkittsville, Maryland.
Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 7, 2014, at the funeral home.
