Ted Joseph Pfau passed away at the young age of 70 on May 5, 2023 at Autumn Lake Healthcare at Braddock Heights surrounded by his family.
Ted was born in Queens, New York on March 2, 1953 to William John Pfau and Florence Marie Pfau (Reidel), as the third of five children. He graduated from Holy Trinity High School in Seaford, New York in 1971, and he attended St. John’s University and Tulsa Community College.
Ted had a successful career holding many senior level leadership positions at American Airlines (25 years), ITI Telemarking Services (14 months), and Citi Group (18 years). He took great pride in building his network and had many friends across the country – he never met a stranger. He was an active participant in his local community, serving as a member of the Argyle School Board while living in Texas; a Eucharistic Minister for his parishes in Oklahoma, Texas, and Maryland; and an announcer for high school volleyball and basketball games at Middletown High School even beyond his own children’s tenure where he was affectionately known as “the Voice of Middletown”. Ted had a deep appreciation of the beauty of nature and its animals. He enjoyed playing his guitars and golfing, as well as spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Jean Pfau; daughters Aubrey Mohler (Thomas) and Melissa Jeffries (Ryan); sons Paul Pfau (MaryKathryn McArthur), Matthew Pfau (Lauren), and Timothy Pfau (Amanda); grandchildren Isla, Jack, Mackenzie, Kennedy, and Quinn; sisters Laura Zink (John), Diane Laws, and Nancy Pfau (Robert Orenstein); and his many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents William and Florence Pfau, parents-in-law John and Mary Virginia Kane, brother Paul Pfau, and brothers-in-law Fred Laws, Matthew Kane, and Joseph Kane.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 10th from 7:00 – 9:00pm at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick MD 21702. A funeral mass will take place on Thursday, May 11th at 1:00pm at St. John the Evangelist Church, 118 E 2nd Street, Frederick, MD 21701. The funeral mass will also be live streamed via the Live Mass link on the church’s website: https://stjohn-frederick.org/. A light reception in the church gathering hall will follow. A final Celebration of his life and internment will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that gestures of sympathy be made via charitable donations to the Parkinson’s foundation in tribute to Ted’s life and the long battle he fought so bravely. Memorial gifts can be made at http://www3.parkinson.org/goto/Ted_Pfau.
