Ted Lester Meek, age 78, of Frederick, passed away after a lengthy illness on October 14th. Born September 30, 1936 in Woodsboro, Texas he was the son of O.D. and Mary Ethel Lester Meek.
He was a high school graduate of Decatur, Alabama, Class of '55 and earned a Bachelors Degree from Florence State College, now known as North Alabama University. He served in the U.S. Army from 1959-1963. Ted taught at William Monroe High School in Standardsville, VA from 1963 to 1965. He then taught school in Frederick, MD for 30 years until his retirement in 1999. He was beloved by many of his students and fellow faculty members.
Mr. Meek is survived by his wife of 54 years. Earle Bishop Meek, of Frederick, one son, Kenneth Douglas Meek and his wife Terry Scopin Meek of Frederick, one daughter Sandra Marie Olson and husband Dr. Nils Olson of Frederick, five grandchildren, Kelli Pradel, Rachel Fouche, Issac Fouche, Wayde Barnhart, Kathleen Dotson,and step grandchildren Lauren Olson and Kristin Mosher, as well as 5 great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either Hospice of Frederick County, 516 Trail Avenue, Frederick, MD 21701 or The Frederick County Humane Society, 550 Highland Street, Suite 200, Frederick, MD 21701.
A visitation-reception will be held from 5-6pm on Monday October 20th followed by a memorial service at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD 21702. The burial will be private at a later date. In consideration of family members' allergies, please refrain from wearing perfumes.
