A Time to be Born - Tamara Nicole Ovejera was born on Sunday, December 11, 1994 in Frederick Maryland. She is one of two children of Alen and Tammy Foreman Ovejera. Tamara a child of God was baptized at St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Hedgesville, WV.
To her grandmother, she was known as “Little Woman”.
A Time to Plant - Tamara received and started her education in the Frederick County School System. She loved drawing and painting and had one of her drawings entered in the Delaplain Art Center.
She was an avid youth sports athlete competing in track & field for the Frederick Striders under Coach’s Debbie and Charles Brown. Under their coaching and guidance she competed in the Junior Olympics and won numerous meets and awards in the discus and shot put throws.
She played a pinnacle roll in the Urbana Middle School Basketball Championship. She also played on numerous AAU and recreational basketball teams all throughout middle school and high school. She earned national recognition with AAU and The New Balance Track & Field Invitational Meets. She earned All-American status in the indoor/ outdoor Shot Put and discus throws.
Tamara graduated from Thomas Johnson High School in 2013. Under the tutelage of Coach Nick Agoris of Big A Throwing, she continued to compete in track & field and became a six time Maryland State Champion.
She was a member of the German club and volunteered for charitable activities.
A Time to Grow - Tamara enjoyed coaching and helping youth athletes including her collegiate peers in track and field. She enjoyed very much officiating youth and Special Olympics events.
She liked drawing, listening to music, singing, and dancing to all types of music; but most of all, she enjoyed her beloved family, friends, and relatives. She always made it a point to lift everyone’s spirits through laughter and her silly antics.
A Time to Explore - Tamara started her collegiate education at Clemson University. Later transferred to Shippensburg University as a Psychology major and minoring in Coaching and Exercise Science. She competed under an athletic scholarship in track and field under Head Coach Dave Osanitsch, Coaches Glenn Thompson, and Alison Freas. Tamara holds the Shippensburg University’s school records in the indoor/outdoor shot put throw, discus throw, and hammer throw. She won numerous track & field meets and conference championships in addition to trips to the Division II NCAA National Championships throughout her collegiate athletic career. She has earned Second Team All-American Honors. She was involved in coaching the under classman throwers as well.
Tamara involved herself in numerous school activities, community activities, charitable events, and enjoyed bible study at the Impact DiscipleShip. She very much enjoyed mentoring youth athletes.
Tamara expressed serving her country in the military; but due to her underlying health issues, she was unable to serve. Tamara decided to serve her country by trying out for a spot on the US Olympic Weight Lifting team upon graduation.
A Time to Rest - On Thursday, November 30, 2017 Tamara peacefully departed this life for eternal rest and peace due to complications from diabetes. Preceding her death was her grandfather Henry L. Foreman. Tamara leaves to cherish her in her memory her parents Alen and Tammy Ovejera; sister Kiyanei Ovejera-Ortiz; brother In-law Joshua Ortiz; grandmother Lola-Mae Foreman; grandparents Dr. Artemio and Norma Ovejera; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and life-long friends, especially Meghan Kane (Her BFF since childhood) and close family confidant Patricia Hoover, The Shippensburg Red Raider family, and very special companions “Champ” (her dancing little dog) and “Nike” (her pleasantly plump guinea pig).
Family will receive friends on Friday, December 15, 2017 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike Frederick, MD 21702. The family will also receive friends on Saturday from 11:00 am - 1:00 p.m. at Jackson Chapel United Methodist Church, 5609 Ballenger Creek Pike, Frederick, MD 21703 where services will follow at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be Private.
