T. Austin Jennings

T. Austin Jennings, 99, of Williamsport, Maryland, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at Williamsport Retirement Village at Twin Oaks.

Born on November 12, 1912, in Brownsville, Maryland, he was the son of the late George S. and Ethel S. (Wastler) Jennings.  His wife, Mildred V. (Davis) Jennings preceded him in death on December 18, 2006.

He was a 1932 graduate of Boonsboro High School.

Austin was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Hagerstown for more than fifty years, where he was a member of the choir, served on the board of trustees, and was treasurer of the Meridian Bible Class.

He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during WWII from 1944-1945.

In Austin's early working career, he worked as a retail bakery salesman for Hagerstown Bakery, until he was drafted in the Army for two years.  Upon return back from the Army, he went to work for Wyand Bakery of Waynesboro, Pa and then later, Capital Bakery of Chambersburg, Pa, retiring after forty years of dedicated service.  After retirement, Austin worked part-time as a custodian for Columbia First Banks in Hagerstown for thirteen years.

He is survived by his daughter, Phyllis K. Jennings of Hagerstown. Austin is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, Austin was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Brindle; and two brothers, C. Milburn Jennings and Bernard Jennings.

A funeral ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 6, 2012  at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, Maryland. The Rev. Randy Reid will officiate. Final resting-place ceremonies will follow at Boonsboro Cemetery.

Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Monday at the funeral home.
