Sylvia Rubeck Myers

May 19, 1919 — March 3, 2020

Sylvia Mae Rubeck Myers, 100, of Fahrney-Keedy Retirement Home and Village, passed from this life on March 3, 2020. Born May 19, 1919, in Frederick County, VA, she was the daughter of the late Ernest Sylvester Rubeck and Anna Mae Stillwell Rubeck, youngest of four sisters and one brother.

Sylvia was raised by John and Myrtle Niswander in Franklin County, PA, on a farm powered by horse and oxen, and walked miles to and from a one room schoolhouse.  She later attended business school in Hagerstown, and the University of Maryland.   She worked as an accountant for Fleigh Motor Company, Greencastle Farmers Co-op, and others.

A longtime resident of Upton, she epitomized hard work and clean living;  gardening, canning, freezing, blueberry picking, line drying, crocheting, quilting, ceramics, and sewing projects.  She was a member of the Franklin County Farm Women, volunteered for the American Red Cross, and served as an election poll worker.  She was a member of St. Stephen's Lutheran Church of Upton.  She was loved and admired by many at Fahrney-Keedy, her home of eight years.

She married the late Richard Arvine Myers, and gave birth to her only son, Richard Arvine Myers, Jr.   She is survived by Richard and his wife Susan; three grandsons, Matthew (and Michelle), Michael (and Jessica) and Peter; and four great-grandchildren, Lucas Richard, Julia Mae, Katherine Susan and William Matthew.

A celebration of Sylvia's life journey will take place at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 10, 2020, at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike in Boonsboro, Maryland. Pastor Alan R. Wilson will officiate. Final resting place ceremonies will be held at the Boonsboro Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 10th at the funeral home in Boonsboro.
