Sylvia Ruth Charles

Sylvia Ruth Charles, 83, loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend of many, passed away on December 18th, 2022, at her home in Mt Airy, MD. 

Sylvia was born and raised in Lancaster county, PA and attended Manheim Township high school where she enjoyed playing percussion in the band and violin in orchestra. She worked as a secretary at RCA after graduating from high school where she met her husband, Stanley Charles, of 64 years. They met in February of 1959, and married in Lititz, PA, November of that same year. 
Sivie, as she was called by all who knew her, devoted her life to caring for her family and friends. Rooted in her down to earth and deep abiding personal faith in Jesus, she loved nature, animals, knitting, rug hooking and cooking. Most of all she loved people. Everyone who met her felt like they were family.

She is survived by her husband, Stanley L. Charles, sister in law Linda Ruth, daughters Jennifer Buranasiri and spouse Munivet Buranasiri, Rebecca Derreth and spouse R. Drew Derreth, Colleen Cagle and spouse Jeff Cagle and daughter in law Anne Charles.
She is the grandmother of R.Tyler Derreth and spouse Jessica Derreth, Hannah Holt and spouse Elijah Holt, Kathryn Derreth, Nathan Charles, Darren Charles and spouse Carlee Charles, Abigail Cagle and Elizabeth Cagle. She is also the great grandmother of John Andrew Derreth and William Peter Derreth.
Sylvia is preceded in death by her parents William Emil Ruth and Kathryn Hollinger Ruth, brother William Ruth, sister Marilyn Reynolds, son Jeffrey Dale Charles and her great grandson Robert James Derreth. 

A Memorial service will be held at Mt. Airy Presbyterian Church on Sunday, January 15th at 2pm. 
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to The Therapeutic & Recreational Riding Center in Glenwood, MD.
