Sylvia Mahlberg Carrasco passed away peacefully July 2, 2016 at Frederick Memorial Hospital Hospice unit. She lived in Frederick at Taney Village apartments for thirty years. Her husband Arcenio Carrasco, was a United States Navy Veteran, born in the Philippine Islands predeceased her in 1989.
She was born October 28, 1920 on a farm in Lakeside, Minnesota. She spoke only Finnish until she started school. She was the daughter of Waldemar Mahlberg and Lisa Josephina Mantelini. Both parents were born in Finland. Her eight siblings predeceased her.

She worked many years as a Licensed Practical Nurse in Brooklyn, NY and Washington DC Hospitals retiring from Columbia Hospital in DC. She particularly loved working in the nursery with newborn babies.
She is survived by daughter Rose Carrasco Csulak and husband Emery B of Frederick, grandchildren Emery J Csulak of Alexandria, VA; Lisa Reid and husband Jack, great grandchildren Jake Reid and Jamie Reid of Milton GA. Eric Csulak and wife Kim, great grandchildren Everett Csulak, Sophia Csulak and Henry Csulak of Monrovia, MD.
Her daughter Eva Carrasco Kraft predeceased her in 2010 and is survived by her husband John Kraft Sr. of La Plata, MD, grandchildren John Kraft Jr and wife Melanie, great grandchildren Karley Brown, Hannah Kraft, and Abigail Kraft of La Plata, MD. Kathy Shoffner and husband Freddie, great grandchildren Alysa Shoffner, Ashley Shoffner of Fredericksburg, VA.
She is also survived by a dear sister-in-law Mary Mahlberg in Hermantown, MN and numerous nieces and nephews in the Duluth, MN area.
There will be a private memorial service and future burial at Arlington Cemetery Columbarium.
