Susie Marcelle McLucas

Susie Marcelle McLucas, 88, of Funkstown, passed away on Monday, October 14, 2024 at home. Born on January 1, 1936, in Knoxville, she was the daughter of Melvin Coulter and Elsie Mae (Best) Coulter.

Mrs. McLucas was retired as a Montgomery County School Bus Driver. After her retirement, she returned as an assistant, working as an aid on special needs school buses, assisting and keeping them safe to and from school. After she fully retired from transporting children, she worked at the Hagerstown Wal-Mart as a door greeter. She often spoke about the memories of her different employments with fondness and of those she worked with and how much she enjoyed working.

She absolutely loved each holiday, and she got so much pleasure from decorating her home in Funkstown, inside and out for all the holidays. Her children and their families enjoyed many Christmas dinners in her make shift garage dining hall. She exhaustively made Christmas dinner for the entire family or anyone who needed a place to go at Christmas. In later years, if she was unable to do it all, she gave precise direction to her son and those helping as to exactly how it was to be done. Her oyster dressing was, for many, was the star of the meal. This tradition, will be cherished and missed forever by all of her family.

Susie is survived by a son, Daniel "Danny" Dodson and his wife Annette, a daughter, Gloria Shank Yazdani; her grandchildren: Dawn Dodson Norris, Danny Dodson, Chris Dodson, Spencer Anderson, Amanda Yazdani, Angie Yazdani, Zane Yazdani, James "Jimmy" Shank, III, Merle Dodson, Melvin Dodson, Andy Schatz and Philip Schatz. She is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren and a sister, Mary Louise Coulter Horman.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sons, James "Jimmy" Leroy Shank, Jr. Kevin Dodson and Melvin Dodson; her husbands, James Leroy Shank, Bedford Dodson, Richard Marshall Sr. and Earl McLucas; sisters Doretha Hanes, Janet Gemberling and a brother, Leroy Coulter. She was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Ashley.
