Susan Woolard, 63, of Ijamsville, Maryland, passed from this life on Sunday, January 7, 2024. She was the beloved wife of Andy Woolard for 41 years.
Born on February 12, 1960, in Depew, New York, she was the daughter of Alice (Kaminski) Kiefer and the late Kenneth Kiefer. She graduated from SUNY Fredonia in 1982 and went on to receive her Master’s Degree in Education from Hood College in 2003. After marrying her high school sweetheart, Andy, they moved to Ijamsville, Maryland where they planted roots, both literally and figuratively, and raised their family.
Susan was an elementary school teacher in Frederick County, Maryland for 24 years. She was vibrant, funny, and patient, dedicating the better part of her life to educating and uplifting children. Upon retirement from FCPS, Susan made time to pursue her many interests which included crafts, gardening, wine tasting, shopping, and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and numerous friends. Her zest for life made her the best “Grammy”/ “Gigi” to her five grandchildren, who will deeply miss her silly jokes, dance moves, and sleepovers. Susan will forever be remembered for her contagious laughter, unwavering love for family and friends, and her ability to brighten the lives of whomever she met.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her devoted children Lauren (Jon) Mullen of Darnestown, MD, Taylor (Patrick) Ferguson of New Market, MD and Michael Woolard of Ijamsville, MD as well as grandchildren Campbell Mullen, Logan Mullen, Yeardley Mullen, Camden Ferguson, and Tucker Ferguson, who brought immeasurable joy to her life. She also leaves behind her mother Alice Kiefer, siblings Sandy Ahrens, Shelley Kiefer and Ken Kiefer as well as her beloved Cavachon, Wally Woolard.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 20 from 9:00 am to 10:00 am at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike in Frederick, Maryland. A celebration of Susan’s life will take place at 10:00 am at the funeral home.
