SUSAN KORNACKI
On Sunday, July 1, at dawn, Susan Kornacki, 64, died at her home in Knoxville from lung cancer. Her devoted husband and daughter were at her side.
Susan will be remembered for her warmth, exuberance, sense of humor, love of people and her many artistic talents. She enjoyed classical music, played piano and was at one time a church accompanist. Creating unique costume jewelry and lovely flower arrangements expressed her flair for design. Her ability to recognize a discarded treasure and restore it made her home beautiful, interesting and always a welcoming place for family and for friends to visit.
During her lifetime, she was employed as a nurse’s aide and a school crossing guard, but her love was for her home and family. She was a devoted wife, a “great Mom” and a true homemaker. Susan loved animals, especially dogs, which she often rescued, and kept feeders for the wild birds.
On September 1, 1972, she married Edward R. Kornacki and they had one daughter, Melissa Lynn Kornacki, currently of Takoma Park, MD.
Born Susan Elizabeth Miller, July 26, 1948, in Knoxville, MD, she was the daughter of Albert Louis Miller (deceased) and Margaret Elizabeth Tucker Miller. In addition to her mother, her surviving siblings include her brother Danny William Miller of Frederick, a sister, Anna Marie Brookins of the Florida Keys, and half-brother Jerome Tucker of Brunswick.
Other surviving relatives include a maternal aunt, Evelyn Jennings of Frederick and sister in-law Lynn DeFrietas and husband Patrick of Salt Lake City, Utah. Her two nieces are Robin Komlos of Salt Lake City, Utah, Gwenn Elizabeth Gennari of the Florida Keys, and great-nieces Jessica Ann Cecil, Kelsey Rae Cecil and Sophia Mary Kozierowski of the Florida Keys.
Susan will be remembered with great affection by her two long time friends in laughter and adventure, Terry and Jean.
She had a strong faith in God and a special affection for angels. She attended St. John’s Episcopal Church in Brownsville.
A viewing will be held on Monday, July 9 from 7-8 P.M. at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1100 N. Maple Ave., Brunswick, MD 21716. A short service will follow at 8 P.M.
