Susan Blackert

October 4, 1953 — September 23, 2013

Susan Michele Grau Blackert was born on October 4, 1953, in San Bernardino, California to Air Force Col., William H. Grau, Jr., and Kathleen Burrows Grau.
Susan was the fourth of five children. Susan was preceded in death by her parents and oldest brother, William H. Grau III. She is survived by her two sisters; Diane Lee Grau, Kathleen Gayle Grau Tribby, Kathleen’s husband, James  and  her brother, Richard Raymond Grau and his wife Janice Grau of Hixson, TN.
On October 2, 1976, Susan married Robert Edward Blackert in Rockville, MD. Three years later they became proud parents, giving birth to their daughter; Heather Michele Blackert, followed by their son Robert Edward Blackert, Jr., in 1983. In 2006, Heather Michele would marry James Patrick Cady of Mt. Airy, MD. Susan would often describe James as her third child.
Susan and her husband Robert would become co-founders of Twin Arch Self Storage, located in Mt. Airy, MD.
In 1992 the family moved into their new home in New Windsor, MD, which they named Silo Creek Farm. Susan enjoyed working in the garden and with her various flowers, located about the property. Susan took great enjoyment as she worked about the farm as she was constantly accompanied by her two dogs, Allie and Blaze.
Susan became a grandmother in March 2011 and again in August 2012. She loved her grandsons, Lane Edward Cady and his younger brother Logan Michael Cady. Susan enjoyed the boy’s visits to Silo Creek Farm, where she enjoyed watching the boys as they roamed the property looking and listening to the various animals and even watching as they attempted to lend a hand, when it came time to bring in the hay. Nothing brought a smile to her face quicker then when you asked her what her two grandsons were up to lately.
Robert Sr., his daughter Michele and his son Robert Jr., would like to take this opportunity to recognize Susan’s sisters, Diane and Gayle for their un-ending devotion to Susan during her extended illness.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her beloved husband, Robert, their son Robert Jr., her daughter Michele, and Michele’s husband, James Cady; grandsons, Lane and Logan; as well as her two sisters; Diane and Gayle, brother, Richard and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
A celebration of her life will be held Friday September 27, 2013, from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. and again from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., at Stauffer’s Funeral Home, 8 Ridgeville Blvd., Mt. Airy, MD 21771.
In lieu of flowers, the family would request that you consider a donation to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, P.O. Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101-9929.
