Suellen Smith, 44, of Frederick, passed away Friday, Jan. 15, at the University of Maryland Hospital in Baltimore after a courageous fight against leukemia.

Born September 9, 1965, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Suellen was the eldest daughter of Karen Wyse and the late Theodore Stec.

A graduate of McCauley High School in Toledo, Ohio, and the University of Toledo, Suellen was a devoted mother to her children, Andy and Emily, and a loving wife to her husband, Lt. Col. Craig Smith (Army). Through numerous deployments in the United States and abroad, Suellen never failed to create a beautiful, welcoming home for her family and friends.

In addition to her husband and children, Suellen is survived by her sisters, Katherine Stec and Mary Perlmutter, their husbands, Tom Johnston and Marty Perlmutter, and nieces and nephews Anna, Sofia, Teddy, Sadie, Alexander, Rachel, Leo, Sam, Bridgid, Elie, and Maggie. Suellen is also survived by sisters-in-law Rachael Guadagni and Holly Smith, and their husbands, Anthony Guadagni and Ben Rogot.

Suellen was a warm, gentle soul with a compassionate heart and an independent spirit. A gifted artist, she was truly unique and left an impression upon everyone who met her.

Services: Services will be held Wednesday, January 20, 2010, at 11 a.m., at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike in Frederick. The family will receive guests beginning at 10 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, the American Cancer Society, or the charity of the donor's choice.
