Steven "Mark" Welch

Steven "Mark" Welch, 53, of Jefferson Maryland passed away unexpectedly on Monday January 25, 2021.

Mark, "Welchie," or Pop Pop, as he was known to friends and family, was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother with an infectious laugh, and a never-ending supply of love and mints that he shared with all those around him. Mark was a proud member of the Jefferson Volunteer Fire Department for many years and worked in Frederick, MD for Stultz Air Technology where he worked his way up to production foreman over the 29 years he spent with the company. Mark was born in Leesburg, VA to MaryLou Connor and Charles William Welch on August 6, 1967.

He is survived by his beloved dog Daisy and her brother Max, his wife Jane Welch of Jefferson, MD along with his children Steven Welch and wife Megan of Brunswick MD, Savannah Welch and her dog Kaiser of Hagerstown, MD, Elise Shanton and husband Peter of Poolesville, MD, John Shanton IV of Louisville, KY, and Jacob Shanton and wife Annie of Middletown, MD. The light of Mark’s life was his grandchildren whom he showered with love, laughter, wet-willies, tickles, and fatherly advice. He will be fiercely missed by all 10 grandchildren, Gabrielle Haynes, Chase Corbin, J’Corey Points Jr., Alyssa Robertson, Rylan Robertson, Olivia Shanton, Noah Shanton, Colton Welch, Luke Shanton, and Jaxton Welch. Mark also enjoyed a loving relationship with his surviving brother David Welch and his wife Paddy of Point of Rocks, MD.

Over the years Mark has provided a foundation of love for his family and was always everyone’s fierce defender. He has had a significant impact on the lives of all he was close to. Mark could always, without fail, be counted on in an emergency, even receiving the "Life Saver," award after saving the life of a dear friend and co-worker on the job. Mark loved hunting with his brother, camping with family, and fishing on his boat with anyone who wanted to join him. Always ready to lend an ear or a shoulder to cry on, his presence will always be felt by those he left behind. Mark always said goodbye by leaving you with a smile, and something to make you laugh with one of dozens of corny sayings that will be remembered and cherished by his loved ones ……"byecycle", "See you round like a donut" …but "Not if I see you first."

Services will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 3864 Jefferson Pike in Jefferson, MD with the viewing taking place on Sunday, January 31, 2021 from 2:00pm-4:00pm and 6:00pm-8:00pm and the burial service being held Monday February 1, 2021 at 11:00am. Please be aware that masks are required. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Jefferson Volunteer Fire Department in Mark’s name.
