Steve Edmund Anderson

Steve Edmund Anderson, age 88, passed away on Sunday, October 6, 2024, joining his beloved wife, Pat.  

Steve was the dedicated and devoted father of Julie Anderson Ketchum of Frederick, Maryland, and Christopher Steven Anderson of Urbana, Maryland. He took the greatest delight in his grandchildren, Adam, Sarah, Declan, and Liam.  

He was the son of the late Clifton Anderson and Roxye Anderson of Hyattstown, Maryland. Steve was predeceased by his wife Patricia “Pat” Anderson, whom he was married to for 62 years and loved deeply. Steve was born and raised in Montgomery County, Maryland and lived across the Washington, D.C. area his entire life. 

He graduated from Richard Montgomery High School and attended classes at George Washington University. Steve began his career working for the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency, formerly known as the Army Map Service, and worked there for over 40 years. As a young man, Steve was a member of the Army Reserves. During that time he met his wife, Patricia (Pat) in Washington, D.C. They married on October 18, 1959. Steve and Pat began their family while living in Washington, D.C., and later moved to Clarksburg, Maryland, where Steve built the family home, which he lived in to the present. Steve retired in 1996 and immediately spent many of his post-retirement years caring for his grandchildren part-time.  

Anyone who knew Steve would say that he was a wonderful man with a true servant’s heart, eager to help anyone who needed him. He led by example; quiet, humble, and hard-working. He was a kind and loving husband, father, and grandfather, who would do anything for those he loved. Steve loved his home, his garden, and working with his hands, often building items for his family. Being outside in his yard is what Steve loved most. 

A celebration of Steve’s life will be held graveside at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Frederick, Maryland, on Saturday, October 12th at 10:30 a.m.  For those attending, please assemble at the FSK Chapel by 10:20 a.m. for a brief procession to the graveside.
