Mrs. Sonia Dapper of Frederick died August 16, 2014 at Frederick Memorial Hospital while surrounded by her family. She was born November 6, 1922 in New York City, the daughter of the late Hubert W. and Hedwig G. Essigke Tschirf.
Surviving is daughter, Jennifer Brown and husband, Robert, of Frederick; sons, Robert Dapper and wife, Christie, of Blacksburg, VA; Thomas Dapper and wife, Janice, of Ashburn, VA; and John Dapper and wife, Jane of Alpharetta, GA; seven grandchildren, Katie Brown, Dan Brown and wife Annisa, Amy Dapper, Ted Dapper, Elizabeth Dapper, Matthew Dapper and Madison Dapper; sister-in-law, Grace Dapper of Orlando, FL; brother-in-law, Ned Dapper of Fulton, MD; and many nieces and nephews.
She was the wife of 47 years to Edward Dapper, who predeceased her in 1995. After retirement, they traveled extensively around the United States and Europe. Sonia also had a lifelong love of animals and birds.
She attended Evander Childs High school and Packard Business School. She held various positions at Marsh and McLennan Insurance Co., Woman's Day Magazine in New York City, and Fort Detrick, locally. She and her husband assisted with the delivery of Meals on Wheels and both enjoyed the activities of the Frederick chapter of the Maryland Ornithological Society. She took vocal lessons in New York City and sang in two church choirs, and she sang in the Calvary Methodist Choir of Frederick. She belonged to the Clover Hill Homemakers and was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Frederick.
She was a gracious and generous person, a loving wife, nurturing mother, and doting grandmother who will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 30, 2014 from the chapel of Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick with the family receiving friends one hour prior to services. Officiating will be Dr. Michael O'Donnell, pastoral assistant at Evangelical Lutheran Church.
