Shirley Sarah Dillon

April 9, 1936 — May 27, 2008

Mrs. Shirley Sarah Dillon, 72 of Emmitsburg, MD died Tuesday, May 27, 2008 at her home in the care of her loving family.

She was the wife of over 50 years to Charles M. Chuck Dillon, III.

Born in Pine Grove, PA on April 9, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Annie (Barr) and Harry Bensinger. A graduate of William Penn High School in Harrisburg, PA, Shirley was at one time a stewardess for Trans World Airlines (TWA) but had worked for over 20 years at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Emmitsburg.

She held membership at the church and had received the Baltimore Arch Dioceses Medal of Honor and was an honorary member of the Vincentian Community.

A Good Samaritan to her friends throughout the Emmitsburg community, Shirley will be missed by all who were fortunate to have known her.

Besides her husband, survivors include her five children; Patrick Dillon of Gettysburg, Kathleen Cupolo and husband Sean of Frederick, Cynthia Sherwood and husband Douglas of Orrtanna, PA, Michael Dillon and wife Lisa of Shickshinny, PA, and Elizabeth Fields and husband Kenneth, III, of Taneytown; her loving grandchildren, Rachelle Mendoza, Paul Dillon, Andrew and Alexandria Sherwood, Steven and Richard Dillon, Mark , Jacob, Morgan and Adam Fields; her great granddaughter, Isabelle Mendoza; a sister, Jessica Bentz and a brother, Louis Bensinger both of Harrisburg, PA; many nieces and nephews. Shirley was also preceded in death by her daughter, Christine Dillon and one brother and two sisters.

Visitation: The family will receive friends on Thursday from 7-9 PM at Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main Street, Thurmont, MD, where a rosary will be offered at 8:00 PM.

Services: A Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Friday, May 30, 2008 at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 100 N. Seton Avenue, Emmitsburg, MD with Father Stephen Trzecieski'C.M. as celebrant. Burial will be private.
