Mrs. Shirley Mae Rose, 81, of Mt. Airy, died Saturday, October 27, 2012 at Dove Hospice House in Westminster. She was the wife of Herman Rose. They were married for 58 years.

Born January 13, 1931 in Watsontown, PA, she was the daughter of the late Maxwell and Pearl Bogenrief Newton.

Mrs. Rose worked as a Registered Nurse early in her career, prior to raising her children. She was very active in Wright's Chapel United Methodist Church in Ladysmith, Virginia, where she served as a lay person. Her church was the center of her life and she will be remembered by her many church friends.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Kim Rose of Seattle, Wash.; two daughters, Karen Quigley and husband, Timothy, of Hedgesville, W.Va., and Karole Wilkes and husband, Gene, of Ijamsville; six grandchildren, Michael Quigley, Zackary Rose, Jonathon Quigley, Trey Wilkes, Max Rose, and Ashlee Wilkes; a great-granddaughter, Lillian Quigley; one brother, Earl Newton of Florida; and a sister-in-law, Jodie Newton.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at Stauffer Funeral Homes, P.A., 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd., Mt. Airy. Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, October 31, 2012 from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Charles Tillapaugh from Wright's Chapel officiating.

Interment will be held at a later date at Highland Cemetery in New Columbia, P.A.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wright's Chapel United Methodist Church, 8063 Ladysmith Road, Ruther Glen, Va.  22546-2844; or to Dove House, 292 Stoner Ave., Westminster, MD 21157-5629.
