Shirley Palm

Shirley Joyce (Deavers) Palm, 73, of Keedysville, Maryland, passed peacefully from this life to the next on Friday, June 24, 2011 at Reeders Memorial Home in Boonsboro, Maryland.

Born on August 23, 1937 in Stephen City, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Lester Eugene and Margaret Odessa (Williams) Deavers. Her husband of 52 years, Manfred Max "Fred" Palm, preceded her in death on November 28, 2008.

Shirley attended Mt. Nebo United Methodist Church in Boonsboro and Salem United Methodist Church in Keedysville. She was a member of the Book Club at the Keedysville Library and spent many of her early years in dedicated volunteer service to the Pleasant Valley Elementary School.

In later years, Shirley was an employee at Bob's Big Boy and Giant Foods on the Golden Mile in Frederick.

She will be greatly missed by her family who will fondly remember their cherished memories with her as well as her love for puzzles, reading, quilting and her dogs.

Shirley is survived by her son Jeffery W. Palm and his wife Shari of Keedysville; her daughter, Melissa A. and her husband David Dougall of Bloomington, Illinois; her only surviving sister, Wanda Grace Boyd of Front Royal, Virginia; and four grandchildren, Andrea and her husband Zachary Horton of Keedysville, Bradley Palm of Lacey, Washington, and Kristin and Jessica Dougall of Bloomington. She is also survived by her two great-grandchildren Mia and Dylan Horton.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Shirley was preceded in death by three sisters, Margaret Burton, Micky Deavers and Shelby Jean Deavers; and four brothers, Floyd, George, Donald and William Deavers.

The family invites all of Shirley's friends to join in a memorial celebration of her life at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at Mt. Nebo United Methodist Church, 134 South Main Street in Boonsboro. Rev. Robert G. Brennan, Jr. and Rev. Dr. Ray Roberson will officiate. Shirley will be laid to rest with her husband at a private ceremony.

Memorial donations may be made in Shirley's honor to Mt. Nebo United Methodist Church Building Fund, 134 South Main Street, Boonsboro, Maryland, 21713.
