Shirley Kay Christianson Maly passed away, at the age of 86, surrounded by her family, on Monday, March 20, 2023 at Frederick Health Hospital. She was the wife of the late John Maly, who died on June 5, 2018. They were married 56 years.
Born on May 22, 1936, in Milton, Wisconsin, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Monica Christianson.
Shirley lived her childhood in Wisconsin before moving to Virginia to work at PEPCO. She and John moved to Frederick in 1963 and lived until her passing. Shirley loved her neighborhood and raising her family there.
Shirley was a lover of crossword puzzles, Hallmark movies and reading the newspaper every day. She was a member of Myersville Volunteer Fire Company. She and John traveled every year to the USS Stribling reunions where they swapped stories and caught up with John’s Navy comrades. She also spent many hours with John at the Frederick County Fire Museum. She was a volunteer with FHH Auxiliary and South Frederick Elementary. Shirley enjoyed supporting her kids and grandkids in their sporting and dance events.
Shirley is survived by her children, Scott and wife, Barb Maly, of Emmitsburg, Linda and husband, Michael Frushour, of Myersville, and Brian and wife, Lori Maly, of Middletown; grandchildren, Katelyn and husband, Steven Smith, Kolby and wife, Jenna Maly, Nikki Frushour and fiancé, James Seeley, Shelby, Tanner, Drew, and Alexa Maly. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Kace and Virginia Smith, and Delaney Maly.
She will also be remembered by her longtime friends, Mary Frymyer, Barb Creager and Secret Pals, as well as her family in Virginia and Michigan.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 24, 2023 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike in Frederick.
A celebration of Shirley's life journey will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 25, 2023, at the funeral home in Frederick. Rev. Tim May will officiate. Burial will be held at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Frederick.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Autumn Lake at Glade Valley as well as the staff at Frederick Health Hospital and Frederick Health Hospice for their care.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Myersville Volunteer Fire Company or Vigilant Hose Company.
